There are a few bicycle rental shops in southern Illinois. Sometimes you might want to rent and try out before you buy, and bicycle rental companies are good for this. Bike Rental

Sandburn Junction: Located right on Tunnel Hill State Trail, Sandburn Junction rents out various types of bicycles to be used on the trail. They also provide a general store with snacks for riders and a nursery with various plants. They are located near Tunnel Hill, Illinois here.

Shawnee Hills eBikes: Shawnee Hills eBikes rents out electronic-power assist bicycles. These are popular for use along the Tunnel Hill State Trail and various other areas in and around the Shawnee National Forest. See their website for more information here.
